This thesis investigates whether inheritance and property ownership rights for women have any impact on women’s agriculture, industry and services employment and their wages. In 2012, a constitutional amendment was made to the ownership and inheritance rights of women in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), a province of Pakistan. The objective of the amendment was to protect and secure the inheritance and property rights of women in KPK.This amendment was expected to affect the bargaining power position of women in households as well as their “fall-back” options in the market. By using the policy change as an identification strategy, this study analyses the impact of the inheritance and property rights on women’s employment and women’s wages across sectors. Using Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement (PSLM) data, this study found that the amendment has a significant positive impact on women’s wages across sectors. However, we did not find a strong impact of this amendment on women’s employment.
