Abstract
The article gives an overview of the control instrument of the strategic, often thematically named reviews (English: "strategic reviews"), which the supervisory bodies of the British police can carry out. Case studies from England and Wales are used to show how inspections can be initiated, the powers of enforcement agencies, how the findings are made public and, where relevant and possible, how the police respond to them.
