Abstract

Partial discharges are an indicator of insulation deterioration in high-voltage equipment. In order to inspect substations for this' deterioration, many utilities perform scheduled radio frequency interference surveys performed by a trained operator using a narrowband receiver. These surveys can be both time consuming and inaccurate. This paper presents an alternative method based on wideband radiometric measurements which can accurately detect and locate the source of radio frequency interference produced by partial discharge activity
