Abstract

We report on z-scan characterization of the two-photon absorption properties of crystalline potassium niobate at 430 nm. The value of the two-photon absorption coefficient was found to be similar to 4.3 cm/GW. Furthermore, we demonstrate efficient (> 60%) noncritically-phase-matched second harmonic generation at 430 nm with subpicosecond pump pulses.
