Abstract

Many of the current discussions around transitions emphasise the negative impact that these periods can have on young people’s mental health. Transitions into and throughout education can heighten risks to young people’s mental health during what is often described as a turbulent period in adolescent development. Yet, what if these experiences can also offer a chance for young people to flourish and opportunities for personal growth? What role does social support play in helping young people navigate such transitions?
