Abstract

It is believed that fundamental limits of electronic switching relaying on bandwidth limited silicon electronics may have been reached and novel approaches and solutions are needed. It has been suggested that all-optical signal processing underpinning highly scalable broadband communication systems may provide the needed improvements. In this talk, we will examine disruptive milestones that enabled transformation of Information Technologies (IT) into what is known today as Information, Communication and Entertainment (ICE) sector. Challenges resulting from this transformation will be overviewed. Possible solutions leading to superior scalability via deployment of advanced two-dimensional optical code-division multiple-access underpinned by all-optical devices and techniques will then be discussed and demonstrated.
