Abstract

In this work, a novel technology for diesel polluted soil remediation was developed. A combination of microwave technology within a fluidized bed reactor process was utilized. The performance of this technology was designed at different experimental conditions. Aim of this technology is to increase the contaminant removal efficiency within low temperature range (low power range). In order to increase the operating temperature during the process, different ratios of granular activated carbon (GAC) to soil ratios were considered. A bench-scale experimental apparatus was assembled in order to study and verify the proposed technology. Experimental studies were carried out aimed at evaluating the effects of power, GAC/soil ratio, air flow and treatment time on desorption efficiency. Preliminary results revealed that FBR-MW treatment shows high removal performance: 60 min of treatment time at 350 W power is required to remove more than the 50% of the initial contaminant concentration.
