Abstract

The 40th IEEE Conference on Decision and
Control was held in Orlando, Florida, USA,
T during December. Even control engineering
conferences are not immune from world
events and there was a notable fall in attendance, in
addition to a marked increase in security a t US airports.
One of the high points of the conference was the award
ceremony, which was separated from the conference
banquet on this occasion. The idea of having an award
ceremony in the 45 minutes before the banquet seemed
to work well. The distinguished member award was
presented to Pradeep Misra by Prof. Michel Gevers and
this was recognition of his considerable service to the
Society The George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award
was presented by Mark Spong to George Barrett and
Stephane Lafortune, for a paper entitled 'Decentralised
supervisory control with communicating controllers,
published in the IEEE Transactions in September 2030
