The Tourism Area Life Cycle Volume 1: Applications and Modifications

    Research output: Book/ReportBook

    Abstract

This volume contains especially commissioned chapters by leading researchers who have used and modified Richard Butler's Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) model over the past two decades, as well as a reprint of the original article, a discussion of its origins, and a comprehensive review of most of the published material using the TALC. The book is divided into five sections: foundations of the TALC (chapters 1-4); implementation of the TALC (chapters 5-7); the TALC in heritage settings (chapters 8-10); local involvement and the TALC (chapters 11-15); and the TALC and rejuvenation (chapters 16-18). Each section features an introduction from Butler. The concluding chapter discusses the relevance of the model to both sustainability and the late Elvis Presley.
