    Abstract

    In some ways, the recent election for the Scottish Parliament heralds the possibility of a new era in the politics of Scotland. One question it raises, however, is about the way community-based education and development has got cut off from its roots in learning for democracy and cultivating a democratic culture in Scottish communities.
