Abstract
In a reaction to current reviews into architectural education in the UK, my research has developed through a series of case studies and teaching strategies which focus on the integration of practical experience within under and post graduate courses at the Department of Architecture, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow UK.
Exploring collaborations and partnerships across academia and private practice, I have established a number of ‘real’ processes in order to better prepare students of architecture for the profession ahead, providing a useful insight into the role of the architect and their dynamic with client, funder, local authority, collaborator, fabricator.
These collaborative design processes are delivered through the formation of temporary and dynamic ‘Design Practices’ and form part of the students’ academic progress towards their Honours Degree and build on existing relationships between the Department and Practice through additional connections with Studio Design Tutors and Alumni of the Department.
