Abstract
McCulloch traces Gomez' (1888-1963) evolution into modernity and existentialism within the context of the same evolution among writers throughout Europe. He begins with the making of a bohemian in the second decade of the 20th century, then examines particular novels and short stories to illustrate his development into the poetics of abstraction. Quotations are in Spanish without translation.
