Abstract
After reviewing recent theoretical results on superfluid vortex reconnections and their effects, we interpret measurements of the decay of superfluid turbulence at very low temperatures. We estimate the fraction of the vortex length lost whose energy is transformed into sound bursts during reconnection events.
