Abstract
In this issue of Cancer Cell, Liang and colleagues demonstrated that sphingosine
kinase 1, the enzyme that catalyzes formation of the biologically active lipid sphingosine 1-phosphate, drives a malicious amplification loop involving sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 1 and the NF-kappaB/IL-6/STAT3 pathway. This
appears critical for progression from chronic inflammation to colon cancer.
