Abstract

Academia is known for the problematic push to ‘publish or perish’ (Amutuhaire, 2022). This contributes to inequalities around whose contributions to knowledge are valued and, within heteronormative higher education institutions, LGBTQ+
scholars face biases and discrimination in their careers, including in the publication process (Nelson et al., 2022; Reggiani et al., 2024a, 2024b). In this chapter, we particularly focus on how we have navigated and challenged heteronormative peer review feedback. Through our experiences as queer researchers, we discuss the challenges and the joys of sharing queer knowledge.

The chapter is part of "The Guide to LGBTQ+ Research", a practical and accessible guide that researchers will draw on time and time again, The Guide to LGBTQ+ Research has at its heart, a commitment to inclusivity.
