Abstract
The present volume presents a series of contributions presented by representatives of various scientific disciplines at the University of Jena at the Herbstakademie Selbstorganisation von Wissenschaft in October 2010. The focus is on the extent to which science can be described as a self-organizing system in general and the advantages offered by such a description for the understanding and further development of scientific processes. The aim is to elucidate the differentiation of scientific disciplines and the dynamics of dynamics in science. The volume is divided into two parts: While the texts in the first part are more oriented towards the fundamental possibility of a description of science and its development and differentiation processes with the help of the self-organization model, the contributions in the second part of the volume illustrate the fertility of one Such an approach by presupposing the self-organization of science as a paradigm, and on this basis discussing scientific-practical questions.
