Abstract
What is Science Sketch-a-nory?
Science Sketch-a-nory was a public engagement with research project generously funded by the Institute of Physics Public Engagement Grant Scheme. It brought together PhD students from the OPTIMA CDT together with artists from the community. Over a series of speed networking and sketching sessions, fuelled by pizza, those involved identified who they wanted to collaborate with to create an image. Each artist was then paid a commission to produce an artwork that responded to the science of the PhD student in just 4 hours! These artworks were then shared through social media channels during EXPLORATHON 2020, on Figshare, and printed copies were given to the students.
Author contributions to the content
David Gilliver trained Alastair in light painting techniques and took the original image. Alastair Davy supplied the scientific inspiration behind the piece and performed the moves required with the light painting toolkit. Kirsty Ross was the public engagement professional who gained funding for the project and uploaded completed artworks to Figshare.
