SAMULET 5.1.7 SPF tooling development; WP2 D2.5 specification for the property and structure characterisation of nickel and chromium alloys used in SPF tools

Research output: Book/ReportOther report

This report complies with the requirements of milestone D2.5 under SAMULET 5.1.7. The report identifies the thermo-mechanical regimes operating in SPF to characterise the properties and structure of cast NiCr alloys in the ranges relevant to SPF applications. In the case of the structure of the alloy the method of characterisation is described, for example full details of the measurement and analysis of grain structure, segregation of alloying elements, carbide phase volume fraction, and microporosity in the cast NiCr alloys are described. Selected test results for the cast NiCr alloys developed in the project are presented and discussed to elucidate the relevant data for modelling SPF tools under simulated industrial conditions. A specification for structure and property characterisation of SPF die alloys is given in tabulated form. Finally evaluation criteria for the assessment of existing die alloys and development of new ones by way of a reduced characterisation specification is provided in a tabular form.
