Abstract
An analysis of the Free Electron Laser (FEL) operating in the non-linear high-gain regime and including the effects of Coherent Spontaneous Emission (CSE) and electron energy spread is presented. The results from this model are compared with previous work which neglected the effects of CSE. The results show that CSE can significantly reduce the start-up time and enhance the generation of high intensity, short, superradiant radiation pulses in a poor-quality electron pulse.
