Abstract

A resonant wave particle interaction is considered for a plasma with density and wave intensity inhomogenieties, formed by the modulational instability producing localized wave structures called cavitons. An additional damping due to these caviton-like structures containing intense wave activity is found and a general approach is developed for particle acceleration by an ensemble of soliton-like structures.
