Abstract
Queer life is often subject to inequality and risk, including via COVID-19, the cost-of-living crisis, and ever emergent tensions to equalities legislation and provisions (e.g. hate crime, Gender Recognition Reform, post-Brexit Human Rights Legislation, LGBT Inclusive Curriculum etc.).
In response to these pressures, a series of Queer Social Justice Pop-Ups continue across 2024-2025. In a context of public policy and provision as often something done to LGBTQ+ communities, this series of events, talks and workshops positions people as experts of their own lives, able to creatively impact on reform and innovation, rather than simply as recipients or ‘at risk’ victims of external services and structures.
This zine is a collaborative effort, highlighting our workshop and zine making activities across locations. It showcases responses to hardships, ways of getting by, and ways of surviving and thriving. There are many examples of queer pleasures, joys, and personal, professional and political wins! And there are calls to do and act differently, with solidarity, and to create safer spaces, where homophobia and transphobia, and other intersecting inequalities including ageism, ablism, racism, and sexism, are challenged.
