Abstract
This paper describes typical large-scale marine power systems within more and all-electric propulsion environments. Issues associated with the protection of these systems are discussed, with emphasis placed upon the specific problems presented by a relatively small power system with high power densities. The challenges faced by the protection system, along with a number of potential solutions, are presented. The paper concludes with an overview of future developments that may impact on marine power system protection and control.
