Abstract

Truly one of the “colossi” of toxinology, Professor Alan Lang Harvey, who died suddenly at the age of 70 on the 2nd of October 2020, made exciting discoveries in the fields of toxinology and basic experimental neuropharmacology. A renowned teacher, supervisor and speaker, he was a strong supporter of the International Society on Toxinology (IST), as its distinguished president, long-standing and innovative editor of Toxicon, and active organiser of and participant in many of its meetings. His enthusiasm, infectious sense of humour and force of personality encouraged many students and colleagues to join him in the investigation of natural toxins, often with a view to their possible therapeutic applications.
