Abstract
This book is the fourth in a series of volumes under the general heading of ‘gender
and well-being’. Like the first three volumes (Harris et al. 2009, Addabbo et al.
2010, addis et al. 2011), it is based on a set of papers which were originally
presented at a symposium funded by CosT (european Cooperation in science and
Technology). The symposium was hosted by the international institute of social
History in amsterdam and was organised by marcel van der linden, Jean-michel
Bonvin, mercè renom and alison Woodward.
