Abstract

I analyze photon thermalization in monolithic broad-area VCSELs and demonstrate a linear dependence of photon temperature vs lattice temperature. For small drive, the slopes are close to one but drop at drive currents where the chemical potential saturates. This might indicate the relevance of non-equilibrium processes in the semiconductor. I also propose an interpretation of self-organized laser modes on thermal background as dissipative light supersolids.
