Abstract

This book introduces STELLA, a program which allows time-dependent processes to be modelled and their behaviour investigated. It provides a simple way of constructing a model of a system, and automatically calculates its behaviour.;Presenting a simple set of tools for assembling the model, emphasis is placed on "stocks", which represents the values of time-dependent qualities, and "flow regulators", which regulate the changes in them. In pharmacokinetics, the flow of drug from one compartment to another can be shown with "stocks" representing, for instance, the quantity of drug in the plasma or specific tissue, and "flow regulators" a process moving drugs from (for example) the blood to the urine.
