Abstract

This paper studies the effects of the random seasurface on an up-link underwater optical wireless communication(UOWC) system. Both light-emitting diode (LED) and laser diode(LD)-based links are considered under the influence of the 3-dimensional random motion of the sea surface. The simplifiedform of beam spread function (BSF) is used to analyse theperformance of the LD-based link while the Lambertian model isused for the LED-based link. Performance deteriorations causedby sea surface motion are estimated.
