Abstract

Age-appropriate drug formulations are not always readily available, which historically has led to sub-optimal therapy for children. Legislation introduced in the past 20 years has required that pediatric drug formulations are required for any newly licensed drug (unless a waiver is agreed). This chapter will highlight the unique challenges associated with the design and development of pediatric formulations. It will also provide an overview of the progress and the innovations as well as the challenges and the opportunities related to pediatric-adapted drug formulation development.
