Abstract

The growth of the Scottish economy is clearly weakening. There is clear evidence of a "two-speed" economy, with growth in the service sector much stronger than in manufacturing. While over the year, service sector growth was weaker in Scotland than in the UK, in the latest 2 quarters for which we have data the sector was outperforming its UK counterpart, principally because of the strong growth displayed within financial services.
