Abstract
The prospects for both the Scottish and UK economies have clouded considerably following the dramatic collapse in share prices in London and other major financial centres. During the last three months Scottish economic performance has been buoyant reflecting the continued strong growth of the UK economy. The labour market appears to be registering the effects of stronger growth but the absence of up-to-date employment data makes it difficult to gauge the likely impact on employment.
