Abstract
The latest output data from the Scottish Office for the first quarter 1996 indicate that while the manufacturing sector performed better than its UK counterpart, the overall performance of the production and construction sectors was appreciably worse. The output of the
production and construction industries (excluding oil and gas) fell by 0.8% in the first quarter, compared with no change in the UK. The Scottish production sector (including oil
and gas) grew by 0.2%, slightly less than the 0.3% outturn for UK production.
