On the solution of non-smooth boundary element equations by preconditioned conjugate gradient methods

Abstract

The conjugate gradient methods together with an efficient preconditioner have been successfully applied to solve linear systems of equations arising from discretization of boundary integral equations on a non-smooth boundary. The structure of the preconditioner is illustrated for several cases and the implementation is not expensive due to its block form. We particularly compare the standard algorithm using the normal equation and a recently developed general algorithm for nonsymmetric linear systems for a test example. Results show that the standard algorithm with our preconditioner turns out to be more efficient.
