Abstract

This is a creative nonfiction essay creatively responding to the novel Dept of Speculation by Jenny Offill. It is a chapter from a book-in-progress which is a memoir that uses creative responses to poems, stories, novels, works of art and songs to explore how the acts of reading and writing impact on those who spend time on them. The essays also explore one family's legacy in HHT, a rare blood condition the author suffers from, in common with multiple members of the family.
