Abstract

This chapter focuses upon new challenges faced by analytical chemists for sensing applications addressed through the development of novel materials. This contribution will focus on the development of novel materials for sensor applications. Although only a small scope of materials research present is covered within this chapter the principles discussed are directly translated to other fields where these materials can be applied to sensors. This chapter to aims to highlight a selection of the different materials emerging as novel materials for sensor applications, while examining their advantages alongside the further improvements to improve their applications across a range of fields.
