Abstract

Ferrite colloids have been of great interest to the pharmaceutical and medical industries due to their unique properties at the nanoscale. Mostly, this concerns their ability to act as imaging modalities while carrying therapeutic cargo. This has resulted in a new class of agents described as theranostics, which can be used for dual diagnosis and therapy. This chapter explores the potential of ferrite nanoparticles in this field, looking at the synthetic routes, stability, applications as theranostic agents in healthcare as well as toxicity, and immune response to such entities.
