Abstract
Two crystalline adducts of sodium amide 1 and 2 adopt contrasting binuclear structures, as revealed by X-ray diffraction. Thus, the bidentate anions are linked to the Na+ ions in a terminal manner in 1 but in a bridging manner in 2. Each structure also displays unusual donor-acceptor coordinations, with HMPA bridging to Na+ in 1, while only two of the three available PMDETA nitrogen centers complex to Na+ in 2.
