Abstract

Dear Colleagues,

We are all aware of the catastrophe that has engulfed our friends and colleagues in Japan and I know that you will all join me in offering our warmest thoughts and best possible wishes to everyone we know who has been affected by this terrible event. The JSV acoustics and vibration community is close and we have a long history of deep and long-lasting international co-operation and friendship which goes way beyond national boundaries, with many of our members working in Japan. It is now clear that the job of re-building the devastated areas in Japan will be long and arduous, and that it must be an international effort. So, I urge you to donate whatever you can as a contribution to this task. One of the easiest ways of making a donation is to the Red Cross, and the UK site can be accessed here: http://www.redcross.org.uk/japantsunami. Thank you for any help that you may be able to give to this urgent appeal.

Many thanks
