Investigating Hot Press Forming Feasibility for High Volume Manufacturing of Harm Reduction Razor: Brengor's Harm Reduced Razor (HRR)

Research output: Book/ReportCommissioned report

Abstract

This project's output report investigates the feasibility of manufacturing of the razor blade designed by Brengor, which facilitates the reduction in self-harm. Effort was made to understand the shortcoming of the design and suggestions were made for the optimisation of the design. The material for the harm reduced razor (HRR) was AEB-L stainless steel. Several tensile tests were performed to collect the material properties of the received UHB stainless AEB-L sheets. Sufficient literature review was conducted on the razor material, press forming/forging processes. The outcome of the tensile tests was implemented for the development of the finite element material model. The FE model of the forging process was developed considering different die sets' designs and dimensions, operational steps, and various part geometries. The final part and forging die set design and manufacturing options were assessed through the industrial engagement activities.
