N2 - This paper describes the application of a Multi‐Agent System used in the design and qualification of ultrasonic NDT inspections using theoretical ultrasonic flaw‐response modelling. When a large number of models are available the selection of the most appropriate one for a given inspection scenario becomes time‐consuming; the disparate nature of the software models prevents easy integration with other NDT software tools to automate this process. A prototype Inspection Qualification Multi‐Agent System has been developed which incorporates a rule‐based software system to perform the flaw‐response model selection procedure.
