Abstract
The 2011 UK Chief Medical Officers' (CMOs') Physical Activity (PA) guidelines were the first to include recommendations for the early years. They reflect the body of evidence on the importance of PA before the age of five.1 Regular PA underpins physical, cognitive and social development; whilst early childhood inactivity brings a very high risk of poor health in later life.1 Despite this, knowledge of the CMOs' PA recommendations remains low amongst healthcare workers: key gatekeepers in the quest to combat inactivity across the lifecourse.
