Abstract

Impedimetric biosensors have great potential for development and eventual integration into fully realized biosensing technologies for use in point-of-care testing and a whole range of research fields. This chapter gives an initial overview of the impedance approach to biosensing and then through use of examples from the literature discusses the main types of impedimetric biosensors currently being developed. The chapter showcases the diversity of impedance biosensors, both in terms of sensor architecture and in the range of target analytes that can be measured using the technique. Impedance-based biosensors have great potential and the challenges which remain in terms of achieving widespread uptake are discussed.
