    Abstract

Instrumented implants record the values of contact forces acting at the hip joint, however only for small sample sizes of subjects. Larger samples require calculations from data acquired in gait analysis laboratories and are based on the use of musculo-skeletal modelling methods for which there is only limited evidence of validity. This study shows calculated and measured values of the three components of joint force from tests on subjects with instrumented implants.
