Hands across the border: a Scottish perspective in school improvement

As a former teacher, headteacher and inspector in Scotland, still active in educational improvement, I am intensely interested in the Can all schools be good? debate. Sir Michael Wilshaw deserves resounding support when he says that every pupil should receive a good education and that they should all achieve well. Indeed, it is hard to imagine a headteacher or teacher saying otherwise to their school’s parents or local community. So, his moral purpose is widely shared. His commitment to the disadvantaged is admirable and his
own track record of achieving improvement is long and impressive. Hats off to his achievement!
