Green Politics Two

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

Volume 2 of Green Politics. Tthe first three chapters deal with politics in Western Europe. (The sequence of chapters does not in any way reflect any judgement on the relative importance of papers or areas of research.) Andrew Flynn and Philip Lowe describe in great detail the development of the British Conservatives' approach to the environment. The chapter sheds new light on the context of Mrs Thatcher's famous Royal Society speech which played such a major role for the greening of public opinion towards the end of the 1980s. The authors show that, in Britain, the environment is a typical 'mid-term' issue in party politics which is demoted to lesser importance by all major parties when a General Election approaches.
