Abstract
Green political parties have been established in many countries during the last 20 years, yet very few have experienced significant electoral success. Here, the author discusses the development of green parties, identifies the factors behind their sporadic successes and recurring defeats, and evaluates the ability of the Greens to attract voters, given the growing environmental zeal of many major political parties.
