Abstract

A bioactivity-guided fractionation of the chloroform extract of the seeds of Picralima nitida using glucose uptake in fully differentiated 3T3-L1 adipocytes afforded six indole alkaloids (akuammicine, 10-deoxyakuammine, akuammine, akuammidine, burnamine and picraline) and a mixture of four 5-hydroxy tryptamine amides. Akuammicine accounted for the increase in glucose uptake observed in the chloroform extract. (C) 2009 Phytochemical Society of Europe.
