Abstract

Infrastructure assets serve society for long time. Therefore, future-proofing considerations are required to be incorporated in order to sustain these assets. However, even though companies consider some aspects but largely key criteria and mechanisms for future- proofing assessments are not known. As part of the infrastructure future-proofing research conducted at CSIC ; what, why and how characteristics of future-proofing were explored through a number of workshops attended by leading companies dealing with infrastructure assets. This paper presents outputs of the CSIC future-proofing research that includes a framework for future-proofing considered asset management, future-proofing criteria, and a future-proofing assessment approach. This paper also presents case studies of Liverpool Wastewater Treatment Works Upgrade Project and London Underground Camden Town Capacity Upgrade Project, where the future-proofing assessment approach was applied.
