Abstract
In light of recent events and crises that happened in the world tourism industry has faced many challenges. Cyprus is a small state with the highest percentage of overtourism has rapidly gone to an undertourism destination in just a few months. The contribution to GDP of the country by a tourism sector has dropped by 80% which has never happened since the first tourists on the island. This study aims to see how is a small island state that highly depends on tourism is dealing with a sudden drop in tourism activities and what is the reaction towards it. The main findings of this study indicate that Cyprus is trying to encourage local, safe, and sustainable tourism by implementing practices towards the fast recovery of the sector.
