Abstract

The integration of BIM in architectural education has gained significant momentum in recent years. Researchers have increasingly focused on identifying essential elements to include in BIM curricula. However, there has been limited research exploring the institutional adoption issues related to BIM integration in architectural education. This chapter aims to present a novel strategic solution called the Framework of BIM Excellence

BIMx in Architectural Education. This framework provides clearly identified evaluation criteria to support institutional planning efforts for integrating BIM within architectural education. A systematic review was conducted to deliver a state-of-the-art view of the issues and challenges of adopting BIM in education, examining the best BIM education practices for architectural education. A strategic framework was developed to provide a novel solution for enhanced architectural education integrating professional competencies, collaborations, products, and processes in excellent design and construction integrity in pervasive BIM project delivery. The research resulted in a strategic BIMx framework with three identified dimensions: (1) professional development, (2) education product, and (3) education process. This framework is expected to facilitate the adoption of BIM in architectural education. Moreover, the framework’s broad comprehensibility can serve as a basis for readiness evaluation, development strategies, and shared terminology across AECO education fields.
