Abstract

Forum for Thought: Reimagining External Examining

Forum for Thought brings together voices from across the sector to share insights, experiences, and ideas on key quality themes. Hosted as a panel-style conversation with space for audience engagement, this series offers a safe, thoughtful environment to explore complex challenges and evolving practices.

As part of this term's theme of maintaining quality in challenging times, and prompted by proposals in the UK Government’s recent Post 16 Education and Skills White Paper, this Forum for Thought explores the future of external examining.

This event aims to explore the topic of external examining from a UK-wide perspective, surfacing shared concerns from the sector, and ideas to influence UK Government work on the issue moving forward.

The panel comprises sector colleagues from all four nations of the UK for a timely and engaging discussion, as they unpack this emerging question, and reflect on the implications for institutional quality processes, grade inflation and academic standards.
